Our Story
“Ndicela ubeYintombi Yam”
Please be my girl
It had been a couple of weeks since I met her for that first date. “She is amazing yho!” That’s how I described her to Bexta. “Apart from her obvious attractiveness I just love talking to her. I have never wanted to talk to anyone so much in my whole life. Its like I met an old friend and we have just re-connected. I’m in love ndoda,” I told him over the phone as he shared the joy with me.
It was a glorious Sunday afternoon. So beautiful in fact that the sun was shining without a cloud in sight, making for a warm pleasant day. This is a rare and special occurrence in Cape Town during winter. I had promised to take her out and ‘show her’ my favorite city in the world, following an admission that she had not visited the main tourist attractions Cape Town is famous for. It made for a perfect date for two travel enthusiasts and it created time for us to talk while marveling at the beauty of this place.
So after a perfectly timed drive in my Lindi (The Mazda) around the Cape Peninsula, I asked her out at Chapmans Peak, exactly as the sun set in to the ocean behind us. I had spent the few hours in the drive talking her through my personal vision and what I am all about. “Ndicela ube yintombi yam,” I said, trying hard to sound confident and in control, hiding the volcanic eruption my nerves were causing inside…
She said she buys into my vision and wants to be a part of it! We kissed. And laughed. And took some amazing photographs that would immortalise the moment. As we strolled away hand-in-hand, I knew then that this was it, Themba Nobanda was back, she had awakened the man in me I thought I had lost over years of disappointment. But I could feel now that man was alive again, Themba Nobanda, the romantic, the man with a plan, Mr Bond, now at his best.
“Do you enjoy experiencing the knack I have for the perfect timing of special moments?” I asked, now with the composure of the suave James Bond character that lives in my head.
“Yes I do” she giggled, glancing back at the sun as it made its final bow into the horizon.
So that’s the day that changed my life, and the reason I am the happiest man alive today.
